Portsmouth Local Air Agency
The Portsmouth Local Air Agency (PLAA) is a contractual representative with Ohio EPA which enforces state and federal air pollution control regulations in Adams, Brown, Scioto, and Lawrence counties in Southern Ohio. PLAA staff prepare permits for industrial and commercial air pollution sources, conducts facility inspections and complaint investigations, reviews facility compliance and emission reports, and responds to odor, dust, and open burnings complaints.
The PLAA also maintains an ambient air monitoring network at five locations throughout Adams, Scioto, and Lawrence Counties. Currently, the PLAA conducts monitoring for the following criteria pollutants: Particulate Matter of less than 10 microns (PM10), Particulate Matter of less than 2.5 microns (PM 2.5), Sulfur Dioxide (SO2) and Ozone.
